Jointly financed by the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye, and implemented by Ege Teknopark in partnership with Ege University and EGİAD under the Competitive Sectors Program of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the “Deep-Tech Gatherings” event series kicked off its first session on March 15, 2024, at the Ege Deep-Tech Factory. The event titled “Scientific Excellence towards Market Success,” was opened by Anıl Baybura, Deputy General Manager of Ege Teknopark and General Director of the Ege D-Tech Project. Mr Baybura emphasized the series’ goal to bring industry leaders together with deep-tech ecosystem players and shared the unique supports of the Ege D-Tech Incubation Program with participants. The program continued with a project presentation by Philip Sowden, Technical Support Team Leader of the Ege D-Tech Project, providing detailed insights into the project’s activities and the latest developments in the deep-tech sector.
The second half of the day featured a session by Prof. Dr. Aytül Erçil, partner and co-chair of the board of Vispera, a deep-tech company aiming to optimize in-store applications, monitoring, and auditing processes in the retail sector. Prof. Erçil shared her experiences of overcoming obstacles and sectoral changes on their journey to globalizing their scientifically excellent technology, advising early-stage entrepreneurs never to give up.
The experience-sharing session continued with Özgür Ülkü from Litum, a company exporting technology to 45 countries from İzmir, sharing his growth story and experiences. After completing his software training abroad, Ülkü discussed his decision to venture into entrepreneurship and highlighted his company’s focus on global growth since its inception. He stressed the importance of seizing opportunities correctly, especially during the pandemic, by quickly developing a new product for a major US finance company that measures COVID-19 contact and social distance breaches.
The event concluded with a detailed tour of the Ege Deep Technology Factory, led by the facility’s officials, providing information on the advanced devices available within the factory and detailed explanations of the Product Development support offered by the Ege D-Tech Incubation Program.
The second event in the “Deep-Tech Gatherings” series, titled “Deep Dive in Deep Tech Business,” will take place on March 28, 2024, at the Ege Deep-Tech Factory.
