Academic Spin-off Training

Within the scope of co-financing by the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye, under the Competitive Sectors Program of the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye, as part of the Ege D-Tech Project led by Ege Teknopark in partnership with Ege University and EGİAD, a two-part training session tailored to the needs of academic “spin-off” companies was successfully completed

The physical session took place on August 24, 2023, at Ege University’s Faculty of Agriculture. During this training, ways to translate research findings and academic experiences into commercial success were discussed. Designed specifically for academic researchers operating in deep tech, the training delved into the transition process from research to commercialization in detail under the guidance of expert trainers.

The opening of the training was conducted by Prof. Dr. Banu Yücel, Dean of Ege University’s Faculty of Agriculture, and it attracted significant participation from academic research groups. During the training, Prof. Dr Emre İlker, General Manager of Ege Teknopark and Senior Manager of the Ege D-Tech Project, delivered an informative presentation about Ege Teknopark and the Ege D-Tech Project. Prof. Dr. İlker concluded his presentation by stating, “One of the most important values of the national science and innovation infrastructure is the development of ‘spin-off’ businesses where new independent companies are established through the commercialization of intellectual property from research results. In this regard, making research outputs more commercially valuable is a top priority.” He also announced the launch of an incubation program that considers the needs of academic research groups within the project.

The online session of the training took place on September 14, 2023, and the transition process from academia to commercialization was examined alongside successful international examples.
