Within the framework of the financial cooperation between the Republic of Türkiye and the European Union, the workshop titled “Deep Technology Incubation Centres” was held as part of the Ege D-Tech Project implemented by Ege Teknopark under the Competitive Sectors Programme of the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye. The workshop, in which the key representatives of the Turkish entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem actively participated, was held on 20 December 2022, at Wyndham Grand Izmir Özdilek Hotel.
The workshop presented the findings of the “State-of-the-Art” research report on deep technology incubation centres, and discussed the findings from different perspectives of the participants. In the workshop, where high-level participants from a total of 24 organisations took part, the income models and sustainability approaches of incubation centres were examined through different methodologies, both academic and professional.
Moderated by Tutku Özen and Serdar Temel, the workshop started with an informative presentation on the project by Anıl Baybura, Deputy General Manager of Ege Teknopark and General Coordinator of Ege D-Tech Project. Stating that the outputs of the workshop will also constitute an important resource for the incubation centre to be implemented within the scope of the project, Anıl Baybura highlighted that they aim to offer different and qualified support programmes for deep technology-based entrepreneurs. Following the opening speech, Özüm İlter Demirci, representative of the project partner Aegean Young Business People’s Association (EGİAD), stated that they aim to raise awareness on deep technology investment with the Ege D-Tech Project, before thanking the participants.
In the first session of the workshop, the participants evaluated and discussed the deep technology sectors, and the special needs of entrepreneurs. The importance of training, acceleration programmes, networking and matchmaking events for deep-technology focused entrepreneurs was underlined. The workshop, which also included a group study on support mechanisms that can be implemented in the Izmir ecosystem, ended with the presentation and evaluation of the results of the study.
The Deep Technology Incubation Center (Ege D-Tech) Project, run by Ege Technopark, is carried out within the framework of the Competitive Sectors Program (RSP), co-financed by the Republic of Turkey and the European Union. The project, implemented with the participation of Ege University and the Aegean Young Businessmen Association (EGIAD), is planned to be completed in 3 years with a budget of 3 million Euros. Dozens of projects implemented within the scope of the Competitive Sectors Program carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey contribute to the creation of a more competitive and innovative ecosystem for entrepreneurs and SMEs in Turkey.
