Practical Training on the Roles and Responsibilities of Incubator Staff and Delivering Startup Support Services

In the framework of the financial cooperation between the Republic of Turkiye and the European Union, within the scope of the Competitive Sectors Programme of the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkiye, as part of the Ege D-Tech Project implemented by Ege Teknopark, the training titled “Distribution of Tasks in the Deep Technology Focused Incubation Centre” was held aiming to increase the capacity of the project team. In the training, organized specially for the participation of the representatives of Ege Teknopark, the project implementer, and the project partners Ege University and Aegean Young Business People’s Association (EGIAD), addressed important issues on the distribution of roles and responsibilities for the success of the incubation centre to be implemented within the scope of the project.

The training, which covered important issues such as the operational structure of the incubation centre, increasing the effectiveness of role definitions and distributions, and team management, was held on 30 – 31 March 2023, at the Kaya Prestige Hotel. With experienced experts in their fields, Theologos Prokopiou and İlter Haliloğlu as the trainers, group workshops were also held on the theme of optimising the support to be offered to deep technology-based startups in the incubation centre.

The two-day training, which took place with the active participation of the project representatives, opened with Ege D-Tech Project Coordinator and Ege Teknopark Deputy General Manager Anıl Baybura and Project Technical Assistance Team Leader Philip Sowden presenting the purpose of the training and their expectations at the end of the training. On the first day of the programme, the importance of continuous learning of the staff members who will be in charge of the incubation centre was emphasised. The necessity of continuously updating the supports to be offered in the incubation centre with the developing technologies and new participating startups was examined with national and global examples.

On the last day of the training, work was carried out in line with the prioritisation of the needs of startups, and a group work was carried out on the design of special supports to differentiate the incubation centre from other centres. The event, where the income models of successful national and international centres were also examined, ended with a question-and-answer session.

The Deep Technology Incubation Center (Ege D-Tech) Project, run by Ege Technopark, is carried out within the framework of the Competitive Sectors Program (RSP), co-financed by the Republic of Turkey and the European Union. The project, implemented with the participation of Ege University and the Aegean Young Businessmen Association (EGIAD), is planned to be completed in 3 years with a budget of 3 million Euros. Dozens of projects implemented within the scope of the Competitive Sectors Program carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey contribute to the creation of a more competitive and innovative ecosystem for entrepreneurs and SMEs in Turkey.
