Within the framework of co-financing by the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye, the Intellectual Property Rights Training took place successfully on December 20, 2023, at Kaya Prestige Hotel. This event was part of the Ege D-Tech Project, conducted under the Competitive Sectors Program of the Ministry of Industry and Technology of Türkiye, led by Ege Teknopark in partnership with Ege University and EGİAD.
With Mustafa Çakır, co-founder of Patent Effect, the trainer, the program was opened by Prof. Dr. Emre İlker, General Manager of Ege Teknopark and Senior Representative of the Ege D-Tech Project. The training, exclusively organized for the representatives of Ege Teknopark, Ege University, and EGİAD, covered critical topics such as ownership rights in intellectual properties, issues related to multiple ownership, and legal ownership rights in the field of deep technology.
In the second half of the day, the focus shifted to evaluating the intellectual property potential in deep technology and detailed examination of legal protection methods for academic research outputs. The significance of developing “Spin-off” and “Spin-out” companies – new and independent businesses established to capitalize on research findings through the commercialization of intellectual property – was emphasized. Key considerations for the assessment of Intellectual Property Rights for firms supported under the Ege D-Tech Incubation Program were examined, alongside national and international examples. This session also delved into essential processes related to the protection of innovations in deep technology as patents or trademarks.
Highlighting the importance of correct methodologies and expert selections in Intellectual Property Rights analyses, Çakır stressed that startups operating in deep technology require comprehensive guidance on patenting and other legal protection methods. Another session of the training reviewed the Intellectual Property Rights support of the Ege D-Tech Incubation Program, focusing on the importance of national and international patent application supports. Subsequent sessions examined the market advantages intellectual property rights can provide for products or services, using practical examples.
The program, which also addressed the legal processes involved in the transfer of rights over innovations in deep technology, concluded with an evaluation session.
