Bootcamp on Designing a Deep-Tech Focused Incubator

The first of the Capacity Building Training exclusive for the representatives of project implementor and project partners was held under the title of “Bootcamp on Designing a Deep-Tech Focused Incubator” as part of the Ege D-Tech Project led by Ege Teknopark within the scope of the Competitive Sectors Programme of the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkiye, co-financed by the European Union and the Republic of Turkiye. The training, which took place at Mövenpick Hotel on 02 – 03 March 2023 with the participation of Ege Teknopark, Ege University and EGIAD members, addressed important issues regarding the design of the incubation centre to be established within the scope of the project.

The training programme was delivered by experienced experts in their fields. With the trainers Ilona Gulchak and Mustafa Özgür Güngör, the programme of the course was structured specifically for the needs of the incubation centre. The training kicked off with speeches by Ege D-Tech Project Coordinator and Ege Teknopark Deputy General Manager Anıl Baybura and Project Technical Assistance Team Leader Philip Sowden on the project and expectations from the training.

Within the scope of the two-day training, different approaches to the design of the incubation centre, which will be structured specifically for Deep Technology-based entrepreneurs within the framework of the Ege D-Tech Project, were examined. Following the detailed explanation of the “operational excellence” approach by trainers Ilona Gulchak and Mustafa Özgür Güngör, studies were carried out on the designs of the supports to be offered to entrepreneurs as part of the centre. During the training, in which the representatives of the project coordinator and partner institutions actively participated, preliminary plans regarding the growth strategies of the incubation centre were developed.

The legal status of the incubation centre and important aspects of its relations with entrepreneurs were also discussed under the training programme. The right marketing strategies for reaching qualified entrepreneurs based on Deep Technology to be supported within the scope of the centre were evaluated. The programme concluded with a review of successful global examples and the final remarks by the trainers.

The Deep Technology Incubation Center (Ege D-Tech) Project, run by Ege Technopark, is carried out within the framework of the Competitive Sectors Program (RSP), co-financed by the Republic of Turkey and the European Union. The project, implemented with the participation of Ege University and the Aegean Young Businessmen Association (EGIAD), is planned to be completed in 3 years with a budget of 3 million Euros. Dozens of projects implemented within the scope of the Competitive Sectors Program carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey contribute to the creation of a more competitive and innovative ecosystem for entrepreneurs and SMEs in Turkey.
